A 41-year-old Aiea man charged in the 2011-12 sexual assault of a then 13-year-old girl is scheduled to appear in Honolulu District Court today for his preliminary hearing.
Court documents allege Scott M. Chinen, a family friend, began 10 months of sexual assault by inappropriately touching the girl at his home at the time in Kamehameha Heights. The alleged assaults escalated on camping trips and after school in his home and truck, the documents allege.
Court documents show that the principal of Kawananakoa Middle School met with the girl’s parents in 2012 regarding her relationship with Chinen, who she said would pick her up once or twice a week from her school or her Pearl City home.
On Oct. 24 the now 18-year-old teen told police she was sexually assaulted by Chinen, known to her as “Uncle Scott,” multiple times from May 2011 to February 2012.
Prosecutors charged Chinen on Tuesday with four counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree sexual assault. His $300,000 bail was confirmed Wednesday at his arraignment.
