Hawaii had a slew of top-20 finishes at women’s local college events the past few weeks — from the Rainbow Wahine and beyond.
UCLA freshman Mariel Galdiano (Punahou) and Brigham Young sophomore Rose Huang (‘Iolani) snagged second-place honors. Huang came up a shot out of first at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, where she was defending her championship.
Galdiano, a three-time state high school champion, got her second-place finish at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview, closing with a 68 to finish two shots behind USC’s Robynn Ree. Trojan freshman Allisen Corpuz, Galdiano’s teammate at Punahou, took 13th for her second top-20 of the fall.
USC could not field a full team because more than half its roster was playing in the LPGA Q-School. Bronte Law, the career win leader for UCLA’s top-ranked team, was also at Q-School.
UH was last among the 11 teams at Nanea, but took third last week at its Rainbow Wahine Invitational. It had four players in the top 15, led by senior Raquel Ek, who tied for fifth.
UH Hilo’s Andi Igawa, a junior out of Waiakea High School, moved up nine spots the final day to finish ninth at the Dennis Rose Invitational, played two weeks ago at Waikoloa’s Beach Course. The Vulcans were sixth, 14 shots behind Hawaii Pacific.
