Honolulu firefighters contained a brush fire in Kalaeloa on Monday afternoon, one of three around the island.

Eleven fire companies with 33 firefighters responded to the blaze near Boxer Road and Saratoga Avenue around 12:30 p.m., according to Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins. HFD was also assisted by several federal firefighters. The fire was contained a few hours later.

Saratoga Avenue was closed in both directions between Boxer Road and Midway Street.

Jenkins said nearby businesses self-evacuated, and there were some reports of structural damage. The cause and the extent of the damage were not immediately known, he said. No injuries were reported.

The brush fire burned about 100 acres, and heavy wind was a major factor, Jenkins said.

Firefighters were working to extinguish two other brush fires on Oahu.

In Waianae Valley, firefighters contained a brush fire at dawn Monday after it burned approximately 30 acres.

The brush fire started at about noon Sunday near Piliuka Place and Kawiwi Way. Twenty-seven firefighters responded, and the Fire Department’s Air 1 helicopter was deployed to conduct water drops.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

In Waialua, firefighters responded to a small brush fire at the Peacock Flats hiking trail reported around 10:45 a.m. The fire was quickly contained, Jenkins said.

The cause was unknown.
