A winter storm has delivered a thick blanket of snow to the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa summits on Hawaii island — so no snowball fights at Honolulu Hale. Still, there will be plenty of festivities this weekend, ranging from the annual tree-lighting ceremony at Honolulu City Lights downtown, to parades and yuletide concerts. No president on Dec. 7, but no motorcade either
Many might be disappointed that President Barack Obama is now unlikely to be here Wednesday for the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. But here’s the bright side for motorists: no presidential motorcade.
As it is, the area around Pearl Harbor is expected to be plenty congested on Dec. 7, when some 4,000 people are forecast to attend the commemoration ceremony, plus another 2,800 at the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center to watch a livestream of the event. To help with parking, Aloha Stadium will open at 4 a.m. that day.
