A 22-year-old Aiea man has been charged with abuse of a family member after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Maili.
Isaac Paul H. Naki-Lima is being held in lieu of $3,500 bail.
On Aug. 14, police said, Naki-Lima and the woman, 22, were arguing when he assaulted her while she was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He then allegedly dragged her out of the vehicle, punched and stomped her.
Police said Naki-Lima and the victim were in a relationship.
Officers arrested him in Kapolei on Thursday.
Third man in Farrington crash identified
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the third occupant in Monday’s fatal Kapolei car crash as 19-year-old Yohei Tanaka.
The two other occupants were earlier identified as Takumi Yamamoto, 19, and Norihito Shigeta, 20.
The crash happened on Farrington Highway between Noulu Street and Kawelo Avenue, less than 2 miles from Hawaii Tokai International College, where the men were students.
At about 11:15 p.m. Monday a Nissan Coupe 350Z was speeding town-bound on the highway when the vehicle lost control, jumped the sidewalk and slammed into a tree, police said. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Names released of 2 killed in Kona crash
Hawaii County police released the names of the two people killed in a crash in Kona on Thursday as Jeongah Hyun of Kailua-Kona and Iljung Nam of South Korea.
At about 12:35 p.m., police said, Hyun, 45, was traveling on Highway 190, north of the 31.5 mile marker, with Nam, 46, in a silver Mazda multipurpose vehicle when she “crossed left of the center” and was broadsided by a white 2013 Peterbilt dump truck traveling south, according to a news release from the police department.
The dump truck driver, a 46-year-old Honokaa man, was taken to Kona Community Hospital with minor injuries. Hyun and Nam were found dead at the scene.
Autopsies will be conducted to determine the exact cause of their deaths.
The crash brings the number of traffic-related fatalities on the Big Island to 30 this year compared with 17 at the same time last year.
Police have opened a negligent-homicide investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Officer Christopher Kapua-Allison at 326-4646 or CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.
Missing furlough inmate arrested
A missing furlough inmate is back behind bars after his capture Thursday night at Salt Lake Shopping Center.
Sheriffs and federal agents in a joint operation arrested Michael Jay at about 10:30 p.m. He is in federal custody and is expected to be returned to Oahu Community Correctional Center later today, according to a news release from the Hawaii Department of Public Safety.
On Nov. 21 Jay returned from a furlough day pass to Laumaka Work Furlough Center. He was told to wait in the holding room to meet with staff but fled.
Jay was serving a sentence for attempted first-degree assault and first-degree criminal property damage. Before his escape the parole board tentatively approved his release on parole Dec. 13.
