Breanna Mackenzie scored a game-high 18 points, helping the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team defeat UH Hilo 67-36 on Friday at the Blaisdell Center.
Mackenzie was one of three players in double figures for the Sharks (3-2, 1-0 PacWest). VeAnne Navarro added 11 points, and Danielle Iwami chipped in 10. The Sharks shot 52 percent from the field, while the Vulcans (1-3, 1-1 PacWest) were held to just 23.6 percent shooting.
>> Despite having three players score over 15 points, the host Chaminade women’s basketball team fell short 83-77 against Notre Dame de Namur. The Silverswords fell to 0-4 on the season, and 0-2 in the PacWest.
HPU dominates in win over Hilo
Jordan Martin scored a team-high 25 points, leading the Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team to a 104-78 win over the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Friday at the Blaisdell Center.
HPU (7-0, 1-0 PacWest) started fast, taking a 56-28 lead in the locker room at halftime. Martin led five players in double figures, joined by Connor Looney (18), Chauncey Orr (13), Colfax Nordquist (11), and Deven Riley (10).
Hawaii Hilo was led by Parker Farris’ game-high 27 points. The Vulcans drop to 1-5 on the season, 0-2 in the PacWest.
