Hawaiian Airlines’ passenger traffic rose 2.9 percent in November as the state’s largest carrier flew more routes and filled more of its seats than the year-earlier period.
There were 869,970 people who were transported last month compared with 845,276 in November 2015, according to data the company released Monday. Hawaiian’s load factor, or percentage of seats filled, rose 4.8 percentage points to 85.8 percent from 81.0 percent.
Revenue passenger miles, or one paying passenger transported one mile, increased 7.1 percent to 14.2 million from 13.2 million. Available seat miles, or one seat transported one mile, gained 3.6 percent to 16.8 million from 16.2 million.
Honolulu charter flight operator expands
Royal Pacific Air, a Honolulu-based charter flight operator, recently finalized a deal to purchase Volcano Air Tours of Maui. The purchase will expand Royal Pacific Air’s services and will provide a private hangar in Kahului.
Royal Pacific Air serves celebrity visitors and high-end tour groups, as well as CEOs and local business leaders requiring on-demand interisland travel.
Amazon Go store is checkout-free
NEW YORK >> Amazon is testing a grocery store model in Seattle that works without checkout lines.
It’s called Amazon Go. Shoppers scan their Amazon app when they enter the store, and then sensors register items that shoppers pick up and automatically charge them to the Amazon app. If a shopper puts the item back they aren’t charged.
It is expected to open to the public in early 2017.

Toastmasters International District 49 awarded Sepiuta Holakeituai the Distinguished Toastmasters Designation at the recent Fall Conference. She is among eight Toastmasters members to receive this award, which is the organization’s highest achievement award. Holakeituai, an employee of Central Pacific Bank, is a Toastmasters member with the Central Pacific Bank Loyalty Masters Club and serves as the finance manager for District 49.
