A 37-year-old Oahu man, arrested after allegedly going on a crime spree in the Kahala area, was convicted in 2011 for similar crimes but given a break by the judge.
Honolulu police allege Ivan Kong was involved in three house burglaries, a robbery and vehicular theft sometime late Wednesday morning in the Kahala area. He was being held Thursday night pending further investigation but had not been charged.
KHON-2 reported a good Samaritan happened to be driving by on Makaiwa Street as Kong allegedly was fleeing and chased Kong down, holding him until officers arrived.
Kong has about a dozen criminal cases filed against him since 2009, including burglary and vehicular theft.
In a prior incident a state judge in January 2011 said he was going to give Kong a break by not sentencing him to consecutive terms and instead gave him five years in prison for three house burglaries and a motor vehicle theft, according to state court records.
