Another day, another dismal report about the rail project.
Hitachi Rail Italy, the firm making the rail cars, has acknowledged that metal beams forming the bottom of the cars’ shells, are faulty, so naturally delivery of the finished products will be delayed.
For any other project in which things were chugging along, this news would be devastating. But here, the initial reaction is mere exasperation.
At least they caught the flaw, rail watchers may say, and the public is not on the hook for it — yet. Rose-colored glasses, anyone?
Hawaii’s health looking better than most
According to the World Health Organization, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” And, for the fifth year in a row, when that big-picture definition was put to a state-to-state test, Hawaii had the overall No. 1 ranking. Our top showing from the list of more than 30 measures in the United Health Foundation’s 2016 report? Low prevalence of obesity.
