A moving vehicle on Lualualei Homestead Road in Waianae was shot at Saturday, possibly with a BB or pellet gun, shattering the rear window, the driver reported.
Tami Bright said she was driving a Scion xB mauka near the Farrington Highway intersection at about 3 p.m. when someone shot at her car. Her four grandchildren were inside, Bright said Sunday.
“I heard a loud pop and shatter,” she said. “The kids were scared because it was such a huge noise.”
The rear window completely splintered, but Bright said she kept driving to her home a few minutes away before reporting the incident because she didn’t want to stop in the area.
She said an officer told her the damage was probably caused by a pellet gun rather than a less powerful BB gun and told her similar incidents had been reported. He declined to elaborate. She said the projectile was never found.
Waianae police were unable to confirm the report Sunday night.
Man faces charges in 2 robberies
An 18-year-old man has been charged in the robberies of two businesses within a few hours of each other in Ewa Beach and Aiea.
Nicholas Yonemura of Aiea was charged Saturday night with two counts of first-degree robbery and kidnapping. His bail was set at $200,000.
Police said Yonemura entered an Ewa Beach store at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, brandished a dangerous instrument and demanded money and cigarettes. At about 1:15 a.m. Friday he entered an Aiea business where he brandished a weapon and demanded property, police said.
He fled but was found and arrested a short time later on Kaonohi Street.
