Calling itself “the roving restaurant without walls,” Outstanding in the Field returns to the isles next month for the fifth year to hold several farm-to-table meals literally at the source: the farms themselves.
This time around, there is an Oahu gathering at Kualoa Ranch with chef Ed Kenney and another at Puu o Kumau Ranch in Hawi on the Big Island, with chef Bonita Lau of Laulima.

>> Kualoa Aquaculture Farm, Moli‘i Fishpond: 2 p.m. Jan. 11. Kenney, owner of Town, Kaimuki Superette, Mud Hen Water and Mahina & Sun’s, will prepare the fare, while diners learn about freshwater aquaculture; $220.
>> Puu o Kamau Ranch, Kohala Mountains: 2 p.m. Jan. 14. At a meal set alongside a grass-filled volcanic caldera, guests will meet rancher Jileen Russell, who will discuss her work as a rancher, while dining on dishes by Lau; $210.
