A 31-year-old woman died after she fell from the passenger seat of a pickup truck and was run over in Kailua-Kona.
She has been identified as Bristol Thompson of Kona.
At about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Thompson was in the front passenger seat of a 2015 Dodge Ram truck traveling south on Alii Drive near the intersection with Queen Kalama Avenue when she fell from the truck and was run over by one of its rear tires, according to a news release from the Hawaii County Police Department.
It’s unknown what happened inside the vehicle before she fell out.
Police said Thompson was taken to Kona Community Hospital in a personal vehicle and flown to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where she was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon.
Police arrested the truck driver, a 20-year-old Kealakekua man, on suspicion of first-degree negligent injury and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant. He was released pending further investigation.
The Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit initiated a negligent-homicide investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine Thompson’s exact cause of death.

Suspect held in skein of bank robberies
Police say they likely have captured the serial robber suspected in 10 bank heists this month, including one Tuesday.
The suspect, who was arrested Tuesday for allegedly robbing the Bank of Hawaii branch in Chinatown that morning, is the serial bank robbery suspect “who walked with a waddle,” a police spokeswoman confirmed. He also often made his getaway in taxis.
The man was also arrested for a federal probation violation warrant and might be responsible for nine other bank robberies this month, police said.
Police said the man robbed the Bank of Hawaii at 101 N. King St.
The man was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for the warrant and is facing federal charges for the robberies.
