Bob’s Big Bear Restaurant — a spinoff of the old Bob’s Big Boy chain — has opened on Dillingham Boulevard, in the former Sizzler steakhouse location.
The Kalihi location replaces the Mapunapuna Big Bear, which closed in 2009 after a fire.
Owner Joe Hu said it took time to find the right location and renovate. The new site, at 1461 Dillingham Blvd., can seat 200.
The menu carries over many favorites from the old Big Boy, including full breakfasts served all day, burgers and prime-rib dinners.
The restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily; reservations are recommended for groups of 10 or more. Call 833-3440 or visit bigbearhi.com.
Market City marks kingly arrival
Donut King celebrated its grand opening at Market City Shopping Center over the New Year’s weekend.

Among specialties: maple doughnuts topped with bacon.
Donut King is on the shopping center’s upper level, next to Gina’s Barbecue. Hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays; and 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends.
