Michael Smith scored a game-high 28 points and added 10 rebounds as seventh-ranked Cal Baptist handed 18th-ranked Hawaii Pacific its first loss of the season 80-70 at Blaisdell Arena on Tuesday.
Jordan Heading added 20 points for the Lancers (12-1, 4-1 PacWest), who led by as many as 16 points over the Sharks (12-1,4-1).
Connor Looney led HPU with 15 points, with Elliott DeFreitas adding 13 and Chauncey Orr chipping in 12.
The Sharks jumped from No. 22 to No. 18 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II poll announced earlier Tuesday. The ranking is the highest the program has received since joining NCAA Division II in 1998.

Destiny Castro added 17 points for the Silverswords (1-10, 1-6), who committed 20 turnovers.
