The Honolulu medical examiner said Liona Spencer, 38, died of penetrating injuries to the torso and that her right arm was severely injured in the fireworks accident that ended her life early Sunday.
Chief Medical Examiner Masahiko Kobayashi said Thursday that he found a single piece of shrapnel in her body, but added, “I think there are more.”
He said a single device caused the injuries, but deferred questions about what kind to police.
Spencer’s partner, Keoki Medeiros, 36, was injured in the accident in front of Pinky Tows on Komohana Street in Campbell Industrial Park and remains hospitalized.
