A 42-year-old man appeared Tuesday at District Court after he was charged with shooting at police officers in Kahaluu.
A preliminary hearing for Glendon Young is set to be held Thursday on charges of first-degree attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and drug and firearm offenses.
Deputy Public Defender Reiko Bryant requested a bail reduction, but Judge Russel Nagata denied the request, confirming Young’s bail at $1 million.
Young allegedly fired gunshots at three police officers in Kahaluu on Saturday afternoon. None of the officers was hit, but the side of a police subsidized vehicle had several bullet holes. Police said an officer was seated inside the vehicle when the bullets struck the police car.
No injuries were reported. Police arrested Young at his Kahaluu home soon after the shooting.

Witnesses sought in fire that destroyed 3 properties
Police on Tuesday began looking for witnesses to help determine the cause of a fire that gutted Pahoa’s historic Akebono Theater and a restaurant next door.
Part of Pahoa Village Road — from Kaleo’s Bar & Grill to Kauhale Street — remained closed as crews dismantled hazardous areas left in the wake of a Monday morning blaze that destroyed three properties, including the theater and Luquin’s Mexican Restaurant.
Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after midnight Monday and brought it under control at 2:45 a.m. They were still at the scene Tuesday to extinguish smoldering hot spots along with county excavator crews, said Battalion Chief Matthias Kusch.
There’s a large amount of wood that collapsed, he said, adding, “The overhaul portion is a prolonged task.” Damage was estimated at more than $1.8 million.
The blaze started at a vacant pawnshop at 15-2948 Pahoa Village Road. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 935-3311 or Detective Wendal Carter at 961-2383.

Work to shut water for 9 hours to several roads in Hanamaulu
Water will be shut off Thursday to certain streets in Hanamaulu.
The taps will go dry from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to customers on Aikepa, Anai and Amo streets; Hanamaulu Road from Amo Street to the end of the road; and Hehi Road, the county Water Department said by email.
The move will allow Earthworks Pacific Inc., contractor for the Hooluana at Kohea Loa development, to connect new waterlines to the county system.
The department recommended that residents store enough water to get through those nine hours and to make sure that faulty water heaters do not empty.
After the water is turned back on, it might contain air that makes it appear white or milky, but that will eventually dissipate.
For more information, call Earthworks Pacific Inc. at 246-8808 or the department at 245-5455.
