Hawaii Interfaith Power and Light (HIPL) will hold two rallies in conjunction with green, or climate, vigils around the country during the first 100 hours of the new Trump administration.
The rallies, in partnership with “GreenFaith 100 Hours of Vigil Prayers,” are from
5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and again on Tuesday at Weaver Hall at the Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Ave.
“Faith communities across the country are hosting prayer vigils during the first 100 hours of the new (Trump) administration to show prayerful, spiritual and moral support for climate justice and action,” said the Rev. Fletcher Harper of GreenFaith Interfaith Partners in Action for the Earth in a news release.
“As people of faith, we know that the earth is a gift which we’re responsible for protecting. We know that communities of color and the poor suffer the worst effects of climate change. We know that smart policies can create good jobs that reduce poverty and create healthier communities. We know we need bold, courageous leadership at all levels of society — right away,” he said.
The inauguration of Donald Trump as president will be the “start of a new era in the climate movement — a time that will require courage, resilience and faith. It is a moment to ground ourselves in the resources of our faith traditions that can help us process our grief, our anger, and our fear, deepen our connection to spiritual resources that speak to this moment in history. As Pope Francis said: The Earth cries out because of the harm we have inflicted,” the release said.
