Philippines-based Yellow Cab Pizza Co. officially launched its first U.S. location last week in Iwilei.
Customers were lined up by 10 a.m. Jan. 18, an hour before the official opening time of the restaurant, located across the street from Costco at 801 Dillingham Blvd.
Yellow Cab offers 15 pizzas, from the NY Classic, a basic pepperoni pizza, to the vegetarian Garden Special (below) with fresh tomatoes, black olives, mushrooms, onions and red and green bell peppers. Both start at $8.95. Signature pizzas come in three sizes — 10-, 14- and 18-inch — with prices topping out at $18.95 for the largest New York’s Finest, with Italian sausage, ham, pepperoni, bacon, ground beef, black olives, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers; or for the Manhattan Meatlovers, topped with Italian sausage, ham, pepperoni, bacon, ground beef and salami.
The most unusual offering is the rolled pizza: Thin strips of crust are rolled around arugula and alfalfa sprouts. Customers can drizzle the rolls with pepper flake-infused olive oil.
The menu also includes pasta dishes and appetizers such as soup and chicken wings. Desserts are from Il Gelato.
While neighboring Costco has an established food court pizza presence and takeout business, Yellow Cab is a full-fledged restaurant that serves beer and wine, features large-screen TVs and offers delivery via Bite Squad.
Yellow Cab Pizza, a sister concept to the nearby Max’s of Manila restaurant, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
