All eastbound lanes of Kalanianaole Highway where it meets the H-1 freeway are now open after Honolulu Board of Water Supply crews completed repairs to a water main that broke early Saturday.

Honolulu police issued a bulletin notifying the public of the reopening of all lanes shortly after 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, four days after a 24-inch water main ruptured just Ewa of the intersection of the highway and Waikui Street. Board of Water Supply spokeswoman Kathleen Pahinui said crews were working to get the repaired transmission line back into service.

The broken water main caused gridlock as crews worked around the clock to repair it.

Officials opened one lane Saturday night and two narrow lanes by Monday afternoon to ease congestion during peak afternoon traffic.

Repairs to the water main, 20 feet below the roadway, were completed early Tuesday. The cost of repairs has yet to be determined, according to Pahinui.
