Billionaire Larry Ellison’s renovated oceanfront Four Seasons Resort Lana‘i has joined the list of Hawaii’s AAA Five Diamond hotels and resorts for the first time.
AAA released its 2017 Diamond lists for hotels and for restaurants simultaneously Thursday.
Hawaii’s other top diamond-scoring hotels were the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, as well as the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, on Hawaii island.
The state’s only Five Diamond-rated restaurants are La Mer in the Halekulani, first rated in 1990, and Chef Mavro, a top-tier awardee since 2008. Each retained its rating for this year.
Professional inspectors review nearly 28,000 hotels and more than 30,000 restaurants each year before awarding diamond ratings.
Of those, some 120 hotels and 63 restaurants across North America were awarded five diamonds.
AAA Four Diamond winners in Hawaii include 20 hotels and 10 restaurants around the state, including new-to-the-list One Forty, a steakhouse at the Four Seasons Resort Lana‘i, and The Mill House in Waikapu, Maui.
The lists of awardees will be posted online today, according to AAA.
