Kalin Uluave, who is majoring in business management at Brigham Young University Hawaii, was selected by Entrepreneurs’ Organization Hawaii as the winner of the 2017 Global Student Entrepreneur Awards statewide qualifier.
Uluave won for his North Shore retail business Tahitian Treasures, which he opened in September 2015 at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
The second annual student business competition, which included a written application and half-hour presentation to a panel of Hawaii business leaders, was held Thursday at the Honolulu Design Center.
Uluave will represent Tahitian Treasures during the U.S. national competition in Kansas City, Mo., in March. The winner of the national competition will attend the GSEA Finals in Frankfurt, Germany, to compete with the world’s top student entrepreneurs and have a chance to win cash and other business services.
Hawaii National Bank was the title sponsor of the event.
