Honolulu fire investigators concluded an Ewa Beach house fire in which one man died was intentionally set.

The fire occurred at about 4:40 a.m. Jan. 7 at a two-story home at 91-1050 Pololia St.

The man who died in the fire was identified as 24-year-old Neil Gibbs.

The case has been turned over to police.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause and manner of death are pending an ongoing investigation.

Gibbs’ cousin has said his brother kicked down Gibbs’ locked bedroom door but could see only flames. The fire was too intense, forcing family members to evacuate the home.

Firefighters brought the fire under control just before 5 a.m. and found Gibbs’ body inside the room where the fire started.

Gibbs was an online marketer and left behind a 2-year-old daughter.

Damage to the structure and contents was estimated at $200,000.
