San Lorenzo Bikinis is opening its first West Oahu store at Ka Makana Alii in Kapolei on Feb. 15.
The Honolulu-based retailer of women’s swimwear and accessories was founded by University of Hawaii student Lisseth Figueroa.
Meanwhile, Homegrown, a holiday pop-up shop, returned to Ka Makana Alii permanently Thursday as Noeau Designers, selling made-in-Hawaii clothes, jewelry, skin care and Hawaiian medicinal plants.
U.S. job openings maintain healthy level
WASHINGTON >> The number of open jobs was mostly unchanged in December from the previous month, leaving openings at a healthy level. The Labor Department says job openings were flat at 5.5 million in December.
Twitter steps up effort against online hate
NEW YORK >> Twitter announced Tuesday that it is expanding efforts to protect its users from abuse and harassment, the latest milestone in a broader campaign to crack down on online hate. The social media giant said it has begun identifying people who have been banned for abusive behavior and will stop them from creating new accounts. The company said its changes, which also include a new “safe search” feature, will be implemented in the coming weeks.
Pace of consumer borrowing slows
WASHINGTON >> Consumers increased their borrowing in December at the slowest pace in six months, as growth in credit card use decelerated sharply. Total borrowing rose $14.2 billion in December, smaller than November’s increase of $25.2 billion, the Federal Reserve reported Tuesday.
SEC opens inquiry into Tyson Foods
NEW YORK >> Tyson Foods says it’s being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, likely in connection with lawsuits alleging that the poultry company and others engaged in price-fixing activities. The Springdale, Ark.-based company says in a regulatory filing that it received a subpoena from the SEC on Jan. 20. Tyson says it believes the investigation is related to allegations that it violated antitrust laws.

Tannya Joaquin has joined Klick Communications Hawaii as its communications director overseeing its travel and lifestyle portfolio. She worked in television news for 15 years at Hawaii News Now and KHON2 News. Most recently she was director of marketing and public relations for the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival. In her new position, Joaquin will continue to drive publicity for the 2017 festival.
Ala Moana Hotel has appointed Roy Piliere as a sales manager. He will oversee the hotel’s wholesale and corporate markets. Piliere previously served as director of revenue management for the Airport Honolulu Hotel and Best Western and Plaza Hotel. Prior to that he was a guest services manager at the Holiday Inn Resort Waikiki Beachcomber.
Elite Pacific Properties has announced that Realtor Patti Kam has joined the company. She worked for Hawaii Life the previous 3-1/2 years.
