Former Kailua resident Travis Browne suffered a second-round TKO loss to Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Sunday evening in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Browne (18-6-1, 9-6-1 UFC), ranked No. 9 at heavyweight, was handed his third loss in his last four fights when he was knocked out cold on the ground by Lewis (18-4, 9-2), who has won six in a row. The official time was 3:12 of round 2.
Browne hurt Lewis multiple times in the first round with kicks to the body, forcing Lewis to clutch at his stomach.
Lewis, who is ranked No. 8 at heavyweight, landed 26 significant strikes in the second round and hurt Browne against the cage with a series of uppercuts. Eventually, Lewis clipped Browne with a right hand and then landed a series of vicious strikes while on top of Browne before the referee finally called the fight when Browne was out cold.
Sharks rout Devils on baseball diamond
A six-run second inning paved the way for Hawaii Pacific in a 12-0 shutout of the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia in a nonconference baseball game Sunday at Hans L’Orange Park.
The Sharks (8-2) pounded out 14 hits and Blake Flint threw five scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Hawaii Pacific took four of the five series games against the Devils (1-4).
