An 85-year-old man was in critical condition after nearly drowning Monday morning in Waikiki, Emergency Medical Services said.
The incident occurred at 10:39 a.m. in the ocean at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. EMS personnel used advanced lifesaving techniques to save the man before transporting him in critical condition by ambulance to an area hospital, EMS said. Ocean Safety and fire personnel also assisted.
25-foot fall injures man at Lanai Lookout
A 22-year-old local man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a 25-foot fall at the Lanai Lookout, the Honolulu Fire Department said.
The Fire Department responded to the 2:55 p.m. call from the Lanai Lookout near 8121 Kalanianaole Highway with 16 personnel. The first unit arrived at 3:02 p.m. and discovered the man had fallen about 25 feet.
Ocean Safety was on scene with the patient, and HFD personnel assisted in stabilizing him and airlifting him to Emergency Medical Services personnel at 3:35 p.m.
Aina Haina fire damage estimated at $270K
A fire that broke out Saturday morning at a U.S. Coast Guard housing facility along the southern shore of Oahu caused an estimated $270,000 in damage.
Hawaii News Now reported that Honolulu fire officials said a circuit breaker that malfunctioned was the cause of the blaze in Aina Haina.
Firefighters had arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the basement of the two-story structure.
The building had been unoccupied at the time. Fire crews were able to bring the flames under control in less than 30 minutes.
