The FBI is investigating the death of an infant.

Army spokesman Master Sgt. Mark St. Clair said the baby was transported to Tripler Army Medical Center on Jan. 29 in medical distress. He was taken off life support and was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m. on Feb. 1.

The infant was the son of a Schofield Barracks soldier.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release the identification of the baby.

St. Clair declined to provide details relating to the baby’s condition. “All circumstances surrounding the death of this child (are) under investigation by the FBI,” he said.

FBI spokesman Arnold Laanui declined to provide information on the case because the investigation is ongoing.

Kauai man charged with sex assault

A 37-year-old Lihue man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor, and more victims might be involved, Kauai police said.

Michael Terui was indicted by a grand jury Feb. 16 on two counts of sexual assault.

A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest, and police found him at his home Wednesday morning. Terui was arrested and released after posting $100,000 bail.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and detectives have reason to believe there could be more victims involved in separate incidents.
