Hawaii’s own Auli‘i Cravalho got knocked on the head but still knocked it out of the park at the Academy Awards Sunday night.
The 16-year-old voice of Disney’s “Moana” sang “How Far I’ll Go,” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda for the film, not missing a beat as a billowing blue flag brushed against her in front of millions on live TV — during a close-up, no less. When she finished, she beamed as the audience roared its approval.
“Things happen, and you just kind of got to roll with it,” she told ABC’s “Good Morning America” the next day.
Considering how the Oscars ended, wiser words were never spoken.
