The man who died in a three-vehicle crash in Kapolei on Monday has been identified as 65-year-old Keith Komatsubara of Pearl City, the Honolulu Medical Examiner said.
Komatsubara was a retired Honolulu firefighter.
Honolulu police said medication or a medical condition with another driver may have been a factor in the collision.
The incident happened at about 3:20 p.m. Monday when a vehicle traveling west driven by a 64-year-old Kahuku man veered left, crossed the center median and collided head-on with two vehicles traveling east on Farrington Highway, police said.
Both the Kahuku man and a 48-year-old Waianae woman in a third vehicle were in serious condition when taken to The Queen’s Medical Center. Police said their conditions have improved.
Police closed part of Farrington Highway for nearly four hours to investigate the crash near Honokai Hale.
The death was the seventh traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared with six for the same period last year.
