UH water polo rebounds against Indiana
Hawaii sophomore Irene Gonzalez scored three goals to lead the No. 8 Rainbow Wahine water polo team to an 11-5 win over No. 13 Indiana on Saturday at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
UH (10-9) scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 7-1 lead into halftime. Erika Pauley capped the run with a goal with one second left in the period and UH maintained control throughout the second half to avenge an early-season loss to the Hoosiers (13-5).
Eight UH players scored in the match, with junior Chloe Barr contributing two goals. UH bounced back from a controversial 9-8 loss to No. 1 USC on Friday.
“The worry is that they’d come out really flat, a lot of emotion went into last night,” UH coach Maureen Cole said. “So it was important for us to talk about continuing to grow and show that last night is us, and we’re capable of staying at that level and we did a good job of staying there tonight.”
The Rainbow Wahine face UC Santa Barbara in their Big West home opener on March 30 at DKAC.
