The University of Hawaii beach volleyball team won three matches to capture the Shave Ice Invitational on Sunday in Irvine, Calif. The SandBows improved to 15-2 after victories over TCU, Stanford and host Irvine Valley College.
From start to finish, it was all UH as it won all but one of the flights. Nikki Taylor made UH history as she became the program’s all-time leader in dual match wins with 61 after a pair of victories with partner Ka‘iwi Schucht.
Hawaii heads to Zuma Beach for a Wednesday match against No. 2 Pepperdine with first serve to begin at 10 a.m.

HPU falls to Holy Names in baseball
Cody Santana hit two doubles and two Sharks hit home runs, but it wasn’t enough as Holy Names defeated Hawaii Pacific 6-5 in a Pacific West Conference baseball game Sunday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Jordan Mopas and Mitchell Bumann hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning for the Sharks (13-16, 3-14 PacWest). A three-run fifth-inning gave the Hawks (6-22, 3-12) the lead for good. Hawaii Pacific had a runner on in the ninth inning but couldn’t bring him home.
The four-game series closes today with first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Hans L’Orange Park.
Chaminade softball splits doubleheader
The Chaminade Silverswords began their only road trip of the season by splitting a doubleheader against Holy Names on Sunday in Hayward, Calif., winning the first game 8-0 and dropping the second 14-0. Both games were complete after the fifth inning, due to the run-ahead rule.
In the opener, Kiana Ulufale led off the fourth inning with a solo home run. Alisen Endsley hit a three-run homer in the fifth and the Silverswords plated one more run in the fifth. Luana Moreno tossed a complete-game five-hitter in the win.
In the second game, the Hawks (3-22, 2-16 PWC) outhit the Silverswords (3-21, 1-13) 17-4 and used an eight-run fourth-inning to gain their big lead.
The Silverswords will stay in California and begin a four-game series against Notre Dame de Namur on Tuesday.
HPU drops 2 in softball
Hawaii Pacific dropped two games Sunday against Dominican in San Rafael, Calif., by scores of 7-4 and 4-2.
In the first game, the Sharks’ Brazzlyn Tovio-Asato and Kayla Sanchez hit home runs and were tied at 4-4 after the top of the fifth, but Penguins took it away with three runs in the final two innings.
Dominican (13-15, 12-6 PacWest) broke a 2-all tie in the sixth inning of the second game to sweep the Sharks (12-12, 5-9).
The two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader today, beginning at 10 a.m.
