The Hawaii soccer team claimed the first of two spring exhibition matches during its foreign tour of Spain with a 2-1 win over club team CE Sant Gabriel in Barcelona on Tuesday.
Midfielder Raisa Strom-Okimoto registered both goals for the Rainbow Wahine, including the game-winner with five minutes to play in the 70-minute game.
UH heads to Madrid to face Rayo Vallecano on Thursday to cap the trip.
Swish gear up for season finale
The undefeated Hawaii Swish end their first season in the American Basketball Association with a contest against the Las Vegas Jokers on Thursday at the Blaisdell Arena.
The Swish (3-0) have played an abbreviated schedule as a tune-up for a full run as a local pro team in the fall.
“The Swish are 100 percent the most exciting thing in town and it’s well worth coming out to take part in watching,” team owner/player Geremy Robinson said. “We are looking to be 4-0 going into next season. Our fan support will help tremendously.”
Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m and tickets are $10 for adults. The game theme is military appreciation night.
Festivities at the Blaisdell begin with a free youth clinic (ages 8 to 14) from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Chaminade splits doubleheader
The Chaminade softball team scored six runs in the 10th inning to seize a victory in the first game of a doubleheader with Notre Dame de Namur, winning 8-2, but were unable to keep their momentum, dropping the second game 6-1.
Rainelle Matsuoka led the way in the opener for the Silverswords (4-22, 2-14 PacWest), going 3-for-5 with a run scored, but was hitless in the second game. Audree Vicory was dominant on the mound in the second game for the Argos (7-12, 7-9), scattering four hits in a complete-game effort.
