Services will be held April 6 for Chief Warrant Officer 3 Howard Esterbrook, a longtime Hawaii Army National Guard pilot who died in Indiana on March 14.
The cause of Esterbrook’s helicopter crash — while helping to install power lines for a private company — remains under investigation.
An open casket service will be held at 6 p.m. on April 6 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, said Esterbrook’s sister-in-law, Lana Kaui Alapa, with cremation to follow the next day.
Then at 10 a.m. April 8, Esterbrook’s longtime employer, Maui-based Pacific Helicopter, will scatter Esterbrook’s ashes over the shoreline below Diamond Head’s middle lookout.
A rifle volley and Chinook helicopter flyover by the Hawaii Army National Guard are also planned.
