Hawai‘i J20+ is organizing an Oahu Tax March from noon to 2 p.m. April 15 in conjunction with other protests across the country to demand that President Donald Trump release his tax returns.
A news release said the Oahu event will be one of 119 tax marches scheduled so far in 41 states, with four more in Germany, Japan, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. National Tax March organizers say that without his returns, Americans are in the dark about Trump’s conflicts of interest, his foreign entanglements, and whether he pays any taxes at all.
The local march will start at McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Beach Park, proceed down Ala Moana Boulevard and conclude at the Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Federal Building, 300 Ala Moana Blvd., where the Internal Revenue Service offices are located.
As with other marches nationwide, Oahu’s event will feature a 10-foot inflatable chicken symbolizing that Trump is “chicken,” or scared, to disclose his tax returns and financial statements for fear that they will expose conflicts of interest that would put him at risk of violating the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution, the release said. It referred to an article in Slate.com, “The Trump Chicken is Coming to America.”
