The Kauai Police Department on Tuesday announced the capture of a 31-year-old Anahola man wanted since Feb. 16 on two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
Police arrested Kalei Goodwin at 1 p.m. Saturday at his home in Anahola. On Feb. 9, Goodwin allegedly tried to run over three police officers with his vehicle.
A grand jury indicted Goodwin on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle.
Goodwin is also facing drug charges, police said.
He remains in custody at the Kauai Community Correctional Center in lieu of $1.5 million bail.
Woman, 26, is arrested in Puna shooting
Hawaii island police arrested a 26-year-old woman wanted in connection with an officer-involved shooting in Puna.
Police located Larissa Naleikailama Padamada on Friday afternoon in Kau and arrested her on suspicion of second-degree assault. She was released Saturday pending investigation.
Jerrilyn Ann Rego, also 26, who is also wanted in connection with the incident, remains at large. Police described her as 5 feet 2 inches tall, 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Rego also has numerous tattoos including a tribal tattoo on her upper right arm, “Chelbie” on her right forearm and “Rego” on the right side of her neck.
On Wednesday night, police said, an officer responded to a request for assistance at a convenience store parking lot in Kurtistown. When the officer arrived, he saw a 54-year-old man and a woman in a struggle near a sedan.
Police said the vehicle then struck the man, who dropped to the ground. The sedan also struck the officer’s vehicle as it fled. Police said the officer fired two shots at the vehicle.
The sedan was later found in the Glenwood area.
The 54-year-old victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Fire causes $60,000 damage to Maui home
Fire gutted a one-story house in Nahiku, Maui, on Saturday, fire officials said.
Fire crews responded to a report of a fire at 8:45 p.m. Saturday off Hana Highway. Firefighters found the 500-square-foot home engulfed in flames. The blaze was extinguished at 10:25 p.m. The cause was undetermined, officials said. The home was not connected to the electric power grid.
Damage was set at $50,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents. The 55-year-old male and 53-year-old female owners were not at home when the fire broke out.
There were no injuries. Seven dogs that were outside the home also were uninjured.
The Red Cross was assisting the family.
Texas man in Palmyra is airlifted to Queen’s
The Coast Guard airlifted a Texas man to Honolulu from Palmyra Atoll after he reported having heart complications aboard a 63-foot boat.
James Hickman, 74, of San Antonio arrived at Barbers Point on Tuesday by C-130 Hercules and was transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center.
The distress call came in Sunday, saying Hickman was suffering symptoms aboard the 63-foot yacht Tesla, then 400 miles north of Palmyra. The captain sailed for Palmyra to rendezvous with the Coast Guard crew.
The 1,061-mile flight from Palmyra took three hours, the Coast Guard said.
