The Hawaii Pacific baseball team dropped a PacWest road doubleheader to No. 9 Azusa Pacific 9-5 and 5-0 at the Cougar Baseball Complex in Azusa, Calif.
The Sharks (14-23, 4-21 PacWest) dropped their 15th consecutive game on the mainland. The Cougars (29-4, 16-3) have won 14 out of 15 overall.
The APU offense came alive midway through the first game, scoring all nine of its runs after the fourth inning after the Sharks had a 2-0 lead. Pablo O’Connor led the Cougars with three hits and two runs, while Ryan Torres-Tokioka also had a team-high three hits for the Sharks.
In the second game, Dillon Miyashiro shut out HPU with a three-hitter, striking out three and walking none over seven innings.
Hawaii Pacific sweeps doubleheader
The Hawaii Pacific softball team swept BYU-Hawaii 4-1 and 5-0 on Friday at Howard Okita Field.
The Sharks’ (20-16, 9-11 Pac West) second win of the day gave head coach Bryan Nakasone his 275th career victory, while the Seasiders (10-24, 5-19) have now dropped seven straight.
Reigning PacWest Player of the Week Dominique Walker went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBIs and scored two runs in the twinbill.
BYU-Hawaii leads Hawaii Challenge
The BYU-Hawaii men’s golf team leads the Hawaii Challenge after the first round at the Turtle Bay Resort Fazio Course on Friday.
The tournament involves the four PacWest teams based in Hawaii. The Seasiders lead by 15 strokes after a 16-under 272. Hawaii Pacific is second with a 1-under 287. The Sharks are followed by Hawaii Hilo, which shot a 2-over 290. Chaminade is in last place after shooting a 19-over 307.
BYU-Hawaii’s Jacob Godfrey and Nicolas Herrera are tied for the individual lead after shooting 10-under 62.
