Survival plans afoot against 10-kiloton N. Korean warhead

    Several “Pre-Packaged Disaster Hospitals” were arrayed around Oahu during the Cold War. Medical supplies from the 1950s for one of the hospitals were stored until 2004 at the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency’s Birkhimer Tunnel along one slope of Diamond Head.

In 2006, with the fear nationally that terrorists could get hold of a small nuclear device, Hawaii held an exercise simulating a half-kiloton detonation in Honolulu Harbor. Read more
