Police arrested a 45-year-old Kaimuki woman in connection with a hit-and-run collision at Kahala Mall that injured two visitors from Japan.
Police arrested the woman at her home Monday night on suspicion of two counts of accidents involving death or serious bodily injury. Charges are pending.
Emergency Medical Services said a 35-year-old woman was pinned between two vehicles in the mall parking lot near Whole Foods Market at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. How that happened was not immediately clear.
Police said the driver fled the scene in a white vehicle.
Paramedics transported the injured woman and a 37-year-old man, also from Japan, to a hospital in serious condition. An update on their conditions was not available Tuesday.
A baby and a toddler who were inside the visitors’ vehicle were uninjured.
Kahala Mall security manager Gregg Higa declined to comment on the hit-and-run due to the ongoing police investigation. Higa said the mall conducted an investigation and sent its findings and surveillance camera videos to police.
Kalihi crash injures driver, causes outage
Paramedics transported a 27-year-old man to a hospital in critical condition early Tuesday after his vehicle struck a city bus and a utility pole fronting the Kalihi Transit Center.
Just before 12:20 a.m., Emergency Medical Services said the man was traveling mauka on Middle Street in a sedan when the vehicle struck the bus, then the pole.
The crash caused a power outage to 60 customers. As of 7:30 a.m., Hawaiian Electric Co. restored power to all but three customers.
Moped hits boy in Maili crosswalk
A 7-year-old boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition after he was struck by a moped in Maili on Monday night.
At about 8:55 p.m., police said a 24-year-old Waianae man was traveling east on Kulaaupuni Street on a moped when he collided with the child, who was running across the street in a crosswalk.
The moped then struck a parked vehicle and its rider was thrown onto the road.
There are conflicting reports on the boy’s condition. Police said the boy was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Emergency Medical Services reported paramedics treated and transported the child in serious condition.
Paramedics also transported the moped rider, who was not wearing a helmet, to a hospital in serious condition.
Excessive speed was a factor, police said.
Man arrested in Kahuku ER assault
Police arrested a 20-year-old Hauula man after he allegedly assaulted a nurse at Kahuku Medical Center.
At about 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 31, police said, the suspect was being treated in the hospital’s emergency room for an undisclosed condition when he assaulted a 39-year-old male nurse.
Police arrested the 20-year-old man Monday at the Kahuku Police Substation on suspicion of second-degree assault. He was released pending further investigation.
