Police captured two of three Waiawa Correctional Facility escapees in Waimanalo on Thursday after they allegedly robbed a pair of visitors at Kailua beach.
Kekoa Aspera, 25, and Kamaka Villegas, 34, were at Kailua beach at about 11:45 a.m. when one of them allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old woman and took her belongings, police said.
They fled in a stolen car.
Police were looking for the robbery suspects and caught them in Waimanalo at about 12:30 p.m. Only then did they realize the two were the Waiawa escapees.
Police arrested Aspera on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and escape.
Villegas was arrested on suspicion of robbery, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and escape.
The two had been on the run since at least 9 p.m. Tuesday when prison guards at Waiawa Correctional Facility discovered them missing during a head count.
A third escapee, Brian Aquino, 31, is still at large. He is serving a sentence for first-degree burglary.
Anyone with information on Aquino’s whereabouts is asked to call police.
