Vice President Mike Pence is making a shortened visit to Hawaii today before returning to Washington, D.C.
Pence, traveling with his wife and two daughters, is returning from his first trip to the Asia-Pacific region and was scheduled to arrive in the islands overnight.
Today he will meet with senior leadership at the Pacific Command and spend time with U.S. troops and their families before departing for Washington this afternoon, Pence’s office said. Plans for a visit Tuesday to the USS Arizona Memorial have been canceled.
Pence is wrapping up a 10-day tour of four countries in the Asia-Pacific region, where he visited the demilitarized zone in Korea and warned North Korea about its development of nuclear weapons and missile tests. He spoke in Japan to sailors aboard the USS Ronald Reagan.
He also met with business leaders in Indonesia and spent the weekend in Australia, where he met with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the business community and other government officials.
During his tour Pence emphasized the United States’ unwavering commitment to U.S. alliances in the Asia-Pacific region and highlighted the Trump administration’s economic agenda, the White House said.

Missing female hiker’s body found in stream in Wailua
Firefighters on Sunday recovered the body of a woman who went missing after being swept downstream while hiking along the Kaapoko Tunnels Trail in Wailua.
According to Kauai Fire Department officials, the woman slipped and fell Saturday while attempting to cross the stream with a group of fellow hikers. She managed to grab onto a rock downstream but was no longer there by the time the group reached the spot.
After an unsuccessful search of the area, the hikers exited the trail and called for help at about 5:35 p.m. Responding fire rescue personnel searched the area via helicopter but suspended the search at 7:35 p.m. due to darkness.
The search resumed at 6 a.m. Sunday, and the woman’s body was located in the stream about an hour later.
The hiker’s identity has not been released pending notification of her family.

A 24-year-old woman was in critical condition Friday after falling off a trail above the Jaws surf break in Peahi, Maui firefighters said.
The woman was walking with another woman down a trail leading to the shoreline at about 12:40 p.m. when she slipped and fell about 20 feet down a steep incline, said Maui Fire Department spokesman Edward Taomoto.
Responding firefighters found the woman at the bottom of a steep 40-foot slope below the surf break lookout.
Firefighters picked up the woman with a helicopter, and paramedics took her to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
Taomoto said the woman is from New York but living temporarily in Wailuku.
