TODAY’S TIP: MASTER STROKES
How frustrating is it when you hit a good shot, your ball is lying just off the green in light rough, then you blow your chip shot? You either muff it so that it pops up and goes nowhere, or you kill it, “screaming it” over the green and probably into a hazard.
Here’s a cool little option shot: Use your 5-wood. Choke down on the shaft, holding it like you would your putter and make a normal, smooth putting stroke. The slight loft on the club serves to get the ball up and out of the light rough then land it softly onto the fringe, rolling it smoothly toward the pin.
Practice this and you’ll be able to roll the ball close and eliminate those erratic shots.
