Hawaiian Airlines said Thursday it is expanding its seasonal summer flights between Los Angeles and Kauai to year-round starting May 26 due to consistently strong demand from Southern California.
The state’s largest carrier also said that beginning on Memorial Day weekend it will resume seasonal service between California and Kauai and Kona.
As part of its summer schedule, Hawaiian said it is bringing back nonstop daily flights between Oakland and Kauai, May 27 through Sept. 4.
Nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Kona will begin May 28. Kona-L.A. flights will be offered Saturday, Sunday and Monday, while L.A.-Kona flights will be available Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The flights between the two destinations will end on either Sept. 2 or 4, depending on the day of the week.
30-year mortgage rates end slide
WASHINGTON >> Long-term U.S. mortgage rates rose this week for the first time in five weeks. The benchmark 30-year rate pushed back above the key threshold of 4 percent.
Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday the average rate on 30-year fixed-rate home loans increased to 4.03 percent from 3.97 percent last week. The rate stood at 3.66 percent a year ago and averaged 3.65 percent in 2016, the lowest level in records dating to 1971.
The rate on 15-year mortgages rose to 3.27 percent from 3.23 percent last week.
While mortgage rates have declined in recent weeks, they are widely expected to continue to rise from last year’s record lows, making people eager to buy. The bad news for buyers is that the number of houses for sale has dropped to its lowest level in nearly 20 years.
