Hawaii freshmen Alexis Brenzil and Calli-Ann Abbott both earned top-10 finishes on the final day of the Big West Multi-Event Championships at Titan Track Stadium in Fullerton, Calif.
Brenzil finished in fifth place overall with 4,786 total points in the women’s heptathlon. Brenzil finished first in the javelin (156-3/47.63m) and shot put (40-00.75/12.21m) while finishing seventh in the high jump (5-01.00/1.55). All three marks were career bests.
Abbott finished in seventh in the same event with 4,650 points. She finished fourth in both the javelin (114-6/34.90m) and shot put (37-0.5/11.29m). Additionally, she finished fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.52) and ninth in the 200m (26.11) and long jump events (17-06.75/5.35m). Long Beach State’s Riley Cooks finished first overall.
Hawaii Pacific sweeps Hawaii Hilo
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team defeated Hawaii Hilo twice, 5-3 and 12-1, on Saturday afternoon at Hans L’Orange Field.
The Sharks (19-28-1) overcame a strong effort from UHH starter Eric Vega in Game 1. Vega struck out eight in a complete-game effort. However, the Sharks amassed nine hits led by Wyatt Hoppie’s game-high two hits and two RBIs.
HPU kept its offensive momentum in Game 2, exploding for 21 hits in a 12-1 rout. Hoppie again had a game-high four hits with four RBIs and two runs. Additionally, Matthew Gunter tossed a complete game, scattering four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks to beat the Vulcans (8-30).

Jordan Curry tossed a gem in Game 1 for the Sharks (29-19, 18-14), striking out five in a one-hit shutout.
Bailey Gaspar went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBIs for the Vulcans (26-22, 17-15) in Game 2, but the Sharks scored the last five runs of the game to rally back.
Kaiser track and field to speak at QB Club
Kaiser girls track and field coach Kevin Kruszona and team members Kristen O’Handley, Tommi Hintnaus, Juliette Lum and Hannah Hollenbeck will be the speakers for the Honolulu Quarterback Club for its meeting Monday.
The Cougars are coming off of an OIA championship won last weekend. The team will discuss the upcoming state championships that are set to take place at Keeau High School on May 12-13.
The meeting will take place at the Maple Garden Restaurant. Lunch costs $16 per person and will be served at 11:30 a.m., while the program starts at noon.
