CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 75-year-old Aiea man who suffers from dementia.
Allen Kaya was last seen at about 11 p.m. Monday at his Aiea home. Police said he walked away from his residence overnight and has not been seen since.
Kaya is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 135 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue pajama shirt and blue plaid pajama pants.
Anyone with information on Kaya’s whereabouts is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
Fire put out at Kahuku High School
Firefighters extinguished an early morning blaze Tuesday that started inside a bathroom ventilation duct at Kahuku High School.
Just before 2:50 a.m., 19 firefighters responded to the fire at 56-490 Kamehameha Highway. When they arrived, they saw light smoke and flames emerging from the roof of the school’s administrative building, Honolulu Fire Capt. David Jenkins said.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 3 a.m. and extinguished it by 3:34 a.m.
Jenkins said the administrative building was closed and unoccupied.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate hasn’t been determined.
Man charged in theft from vehicle
A 20-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly entered a vehicle and stole property in downtown Honolulu.
Dace Austin was charged Sunday with first-degree unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail has been set at $20,000.
At about 5:25 p.m. Saturday, police said, Austin stole personal property inside the vehicle that belonged to the owner. Police located him on North Beretania Street in Chinatown and arrested him shortly after.
