Hawaiian Telcom is hosting an event today for technology professionals at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
The Hawaiian Telcom University includes workshops, technology exhibits and a networking mixer centered around businesses getting an edge using new technology.
The exhibits will be on display from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hawaiian Telcom will host a networking opportunity from 3 to 4 p.m.
Workshop topics include: Risks Facing Businesses in the Smart World; Technology and Marketing: From Enemies to Allies; Threat Intelligence Introduction: How to Craft a Program and Operationalize Outcomes; and The Future “X” Network — A Bell Labs Perspective.
Hawaiian Telcom said the event will bring together professionals from Accenture, Cisco, and Palo Alto Networks as well as Bank of Hawaii and Queen’s Health Systems.
2 isle youth volunteers earn national honors
Hawaii’s top two youth volunteers of 2017, Cierra Nakamura, 18, of Honolulu and Emma Tandara, 14, of Ewa Beach, were honored in Washington, D.C., Sunday night for their outstanding volunteer service during the 22nd annual presentation of The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Nakamura and Tandara — along with 100 other top youth volunteers from across the country — each received $1,000 awards and personal congratulations from Olympic gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps at a reception at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.

>> The Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Michael Titterton as president. Titterton was previously the president and general manager of Hawaii Public Radio, a position he held from 1999 until he retired in 2016.
>> The Honolulu Community Action Program has announced that Grant Kogami has been named the new Head Start director. Kogami started at HCAP in 2003 as a Head Start assistant teacher and later as a Head Start teacher, Head Start teacher mentor, Head Start program manager and Head Start assistant director.
>> Starn O’Toole Marcus & Fisher has announced that Sara S. Tsukamoto has joined the firm as an associate. She will practice in the areas of commercial transactions and real estate. Tsukamoto was previously an associate at Chang Iwamasa LLP.
