Lang Lang, the flashy Chinese pianist, local slack-key guitarist Jeff Peterson and acclaimed maestro Leonard Slatkin headline the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra’s 2017-2018 Masterworks season.
Lang Lang will perform Beethoven’s third piano concerto in February, while Peterson will premiere his “Malama ‘Aina,” a concerto for slack-key guitar, in December. Slatkin, a four-time Grammy winner, conducts in April.
Other highlights include a concerto for flute and pipa, the Chinese lute; HSO harpist Constance Uejio in a harp concerto; and the return of pianists Fabio Bidini, Sara Davis Buechner and Olga Kern.
