A 25-year-old man was in custody Saturday after police said he shot his ex-girlfriend in Kalihi Valley.
The man was arrested for investigation of second-degree attempted murder at 9:45 p.m. Friday at Best Western The Plaza Hotel, 3253 N. Nimitz Highway.
Police were looking for the man after he allegedly shot a 31-year-old woman at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Police said the woman was driving on Kalihi Street when her ex-boyfriend pulled up next to her in a Ford Explorer and shot at her multiple times.
The woman was struck in her left shoulder, and about three bullets hit the driver’s-side door, police said.
The woman flagged down a police officer, and paramedics took her to a hospital in serious condition.
Later that morning, police spotted the Ford Explorer on Beretania Street in downtown, but another person was inside. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of a traffic offense.
Waikiki fatality ID’d as Kaneohe man, 30
A 30-year-old Kaneohe man who died last week after he was pulled from the water in Waikiki was identified by the Honolulu medical examiner’s office Saturday as Pono Fukumitsu of Kaneohe.
The preliminary cause of death for Fukumitsu was complications of drowning and the manner of his death was ruled an accident, the office said.
Police said lifeguards found Fukumitsu unresponsive in the water off Waikiki Beach at about 2:40 p.m. May 2. He was taken to a hospital where he died May 7, police said.
Second fire in a week hits Kahuku High
Firefighters extinguished the second fire in a week at Kahuku High School on Friday night.
At about 9:35 p.m., firefighters responded to the school at 56-490 Kamehameha Highway and found a small amount of smoke and flames coming from the roof and inside of a classroom, said Honolulu fire Capt. David Jenkins.
Firefighters extinguished the fire by 10:14 p.m. and were investigating the cause, Jenkins said. A damage estimate was not available. Jenkins said the building was closed and unoccupied.
At about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, a fire started inside a bathroom ventilation duct at the school.
The cause of that fire was undetermined. Damage was estimated at $2,000.
