Hawaii is the third healthiest state in the country for senior citizens, according to the 2017 America’s Health Rankings Senior Report released by United Health Foundation.
The top-ranked state is Minnesota while Mississippi comes in last in the report, which uses a range of indicators including behaviors, clinical care, outcomes and policy.
Hawaii was distinguished by its low rates of obesity, falls and premature deaths, as well as its ample supply of geriatricians and regular dental care for seniors. The state placed first in all those categories.
On the negative side, seniors in the Aloha State had high rates of excessive drinking, more deaths in the hospital than at home, and inadequate pain management.
