MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. >> Google provided a look Wednesday at its latest digital services and gadgets, with a heavy focus on its efforts to extend artificial intelligence features into more of its apps and services. The overview came during Google’s annual conference for thousands of app developers.
U.S. households owe record amount
WASHINGTON >> U.S. household debt reached a record high in the first three months of this year, topping the previous peak reached in 2008. Yet the nature of what Americans owe has changed since the Great Recession. Student and auto loans make up a larger proportion of household debt, while mortgages and credit card debt remain below pre-recession levels.
Arrest made in theft of California beehives
FRESNO, Calif. >> The bee industry is buzzing over the arrest of a California man accused in one of the biggest thefts of beehives on record. Authorities say the 51-year-old suspect from the Sacramento suburbs stole thousands of hives worth nearly $1 million from California’s almond orchards. Hives are rented out to growers to pollinate flowering trees.

Oahu Transit Services has announced that the following employees took first, second and third place at the 2017 American Public Transportation Association International Bus Roadeo in Nevada earlier this month:
>> OTS bus operator Douglas Rego took first place in the 35-foot bus competition. Rego competed against 19 other entrants in the event that included timed runs, a full obstacle course and intricate maneuvers with a 35-foot bus.
>> OTS maintenance team Richard Takeuchi, Lonn Nakata and Michael Sugimoto took third place after competing against 38 other maintenance teams.
>> The OTS team took second place in the overall competition among 34 other bus operators and maintenance teams.
ProService Hawaii has promoted Jon Yee to director of information technology from IT manager. He has been with the company for nearly 10 years. Prior to joining ProService, Yee served as a director of IT at Apperson Print Management Services in Los Angeles.
Atlas Insurance Agency has announced Kari Yamada is vice president of commercial lines operations. Yamada started in 2004 as an account administrator for Atlas, and was promoted to account manager then to unit manager in the Atlas Support Unit.
