Question: We bought a universal life insurance policy and understood that the premium would be charged annually in November. … Now the company is calling, saying that I have to make a big payment ($2,800) by the end of May. … I am already putting in $525 a month for the savings element … This does not seem right to me and is not what we signed up for. …
Answer: We checked with the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. A spokesman encouraged you to contact the department’s insurance division for assistance in determining whether a complaint is warranted. The phone number is 586-2790. Be sure to have a copy of your life insurance policy handy when you call.
Q: Thanks for writing about McKinley High School’s 150th anniversary book (808ne.ws/may15kline). I didn’t know there was one! I know you said it is behind schedule but I am interested. So my question is, are they still taking orders?
A: Yes, although the supply might be limited. Email MHS150years@gmail.com for more information. Be sure to write “MHS book order” in the subject line. The pre-order price is $20, said Jennifer Agena, the McKinley High School librarian who is assisting the alumni-led project. You are one of several McKinley alumni who called after reading the Kokua Line column on this subject Monday, all of whom said they wanted to order the book.
Q: There’s what seems to be a tour helicopter flying too low too often. I don’t know the company. Does anyone track this?
A: Yes. Call the Federal Aviation Administration’s Honolulu Flight Standards District Office at 837-8300 to report low-flying aircraft. Press 1 after the recorded voice greeting begins. Provide as much detail about the aircraft and the incidents as you can. An FAA pamphlet at 808ne.ws/faaflier includes a reporting checklist to help observers make useful complaints.

On the H-2 freeway about 1 p.m. on May 11, there was a semitruck with two trailers on it that had a black cover. …. I had my 85-year-old mom in the car, who has a bad heart, and this driver kept flicking his lights at me and blowing his horn. I was in the far right lane going the speed limit and yet he kept tailgating. He almost banged my car, staying two feet away all the way up the H-2. … If he wanted to, he could have passed me and then gone back to the right lane. … I was going the speed limit. … He really got my mom frightened. … It was very wrong of him to do that. And on top of it, when I took the Ka Uka Boulevard exit he blew his horn again and he stuck me the middle finger. That guy needs to grow up. I just want to say, “Braddah, you have no class, man.” And where are the police? They should be ticketing these tailgaters. He harassed me all the way. … — Distressed driver

Our Special Olympics team, the Leeward Jaguars, participated in the recent Wahiawa Pineapple Run, organized by the Central Oahu Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA). This was our second year participating, and again, the Central Oahu CPOA welcomed us and made sure that our special athletes were accommodated, making for another most memorable and exciting day. Our athletes surprised us with their efforts and results. We would like to thank SCPO Delaina Sears, SCPO Dan Hallman, MCPO Don Leppert and Josh (the photographer; I didn’t catch his last name or rank) for making sure that our athletes would favorably experience every moment of the day. Our athletes were proud of themselves, along with their coaches and parents. We cannot thank enough the Central Oahu CPOA for all they’ve done for us. In addition to the special attention they gave us, we would like to thank them all for their commitment and service to our country. — Coach Jim Ritchie
