Moped driver still critical since crash in Makiki
A 34-year-old Waialua man who was struck Wednesday night while on a moped in Makiki remained in critical condition Thursday, police said.
A 2008 Nissan pickup truck, driven by a 23-year-old Honolulu man, was heading west on Wilder Avenue when it made a left turn onto Keeaumoku Street directly into the path of the oncoming moped, which was heading east on Wilder Avenue, police said.
The moped, a 2014 Jonway, collided with the truck, causing the moped operator to be thrown onto the road. He landed in the mauka-bound lanes of Keeaumoku Street. He was taken in critical condition to a hospital.
The incident occurred at 7:48 p.m.
The pickup truck driver remained at the scene until police concluded their investigation.

A snorkeler who drowned Monday off Makua Beach in Waianae has been identified as Rodney Olmstead, 50, of Oregon.
Olmstead was found unresponsive in the ocean. A boat picked up Olmstead at about 8:30 a.m., and paramedics transported him to an area hospital, where he died.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said the manner of death has been classified as an accident.
